How to enable Quad Band mode on the Motelona 158x / XY968 brick phone
This particular phone is a Quad-band model, but it's sometimes sold with Triband firmware (1900/900/1800) instead of Quad-band firmware (850/1900/900/1800). The only difference is in the software! It CAN be a quad-band phone, if you unlock it a little bit.
Why go through the trouble? It will allow the phone to get signal in those parts of the USA that still use the GSM 850 network. This is helpful because most of the old Cingular towers bought out by AT&T are 850 GSM. So if you live in the United States, especially in the old Cingular area, which is all though most of the South and the Midwest, then you'll probably want to be able to use those towers.
So what do you need to do this? A willingness to hack, experiment, and if you'll pardon the pun, possibly "brick" your new phone. :)
Seriously though, it's easy. If you have found this website and are reading these words, then I have absolute faith in your ability to do this.
You are going to need some software. Over on the "Files" page of this website you will find both programs that you will need. One is called P2K Tools, and is a software program that you will use to actually edit the phone, transfer files, etc. The other is simply the drivers needed by windows to be able to recognize a motorola phone once it's hooked up via the miniUSB port.
You must ensure your phone is properly connected to the computer! This site is an excellent place to start learning how to get your motorola phone hooked up and going, if you need more step-by-step help. http://www.themotoguide.com/getconnected.php
Once you have that software installed and going, you need to crack open your phone to actually hook it up. Don't panic! A T8 Torx (star head) bit will do the job nicely, as will a small enough flathead screwdriver. Open up your phone, and inside you will see a standard MiniUSB connector. You may also notice that the mainboard is directly out of another phone. It still has the 2.5mm jack for a handsfree, and an older pin style charging port!

Now you need to hook up your phone to your computer and fire up P2K Tools.
This post by the user "duceduc" on the phone modding website www.howardforums.com has all the information

"Duceduc" says:
You will need p2kman, XVI32 (seem editing software), and usb data cable.
D/l:
SEEM 0025_0001
edited with XVI32:
offset 00 - bit 0, bit 3: 900/1800 and 1900 (set each of these bits to 1)
bit 0, bit 1, bit 3: 850/1900 and 900/1800 (set each of these bits to 1)
bit 0, bit 2, bit 3: 850/1900 and 900 (set each of these bits to 1)
"Duceduc" is telling us that a seem file has to edited with a hex editor and a few values have to be changed manually.
He even gives us the sequence of exactly what bits have to be flagged to do what we want.
In this case, to unlock quad band mode, we need to edit SEEM 0025_0001 and change bit 0, bit 1, and bit 3 to have a "positive value" of 1. When this is done, restart the phone, and Voila, it is now a quad band model!
How to do it "by the numbers"
Go to this site: http://www.themotoguide.com/seemediting.php It's called "Seem editing for N00bs". It's good stuff
It shows you a step-by-step walkthough on how to use P2K Tools to edit a Seem file. Do exactly as it says, just replace the info in the tutorial with the above info. Remember : edit Seem 0025_0001, and set bit 0, bit 1, bit 3 to "1". Save, and restart. It's as easy as that.
Really.

How do you get MMS working so you can get text and pictures?
The Motelona comes full of weird Chinese settings and ready to work on the Chinese cell phone network, so you have to reset a few things so that the phone knows to try and talk to your local provider, instead of of whatever weird "说文解字" settings might be in there.
I use the ATT/Cingular network, so I just followed the instructions for setting up the phone to work with WAP through ATT/Cingular.
The instructions are here: http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB38858
